Key Information

I have experience in voluntary settings to include, supporting families and as a volunteer in a rehab. My social worker placements were in a Community Home with males under 18 who were offenders or who were a risk to others and with homeless teenagers.

My Social Worker experience is working with children and young people to include front line child protection and court work and Out of Hour social Work. This included assessment of families, writing court reports and managing and reviewing support packages for families. I have also supervised and line managed both support workers and social workers as a team manager.

I took early retirement voluntary redundancy from my role as the Local Authority Designated Officer for a North West Local Authority as an officer of the Local Safeguarding Children Board in December 2010. The main responsibility of this role was the strategic oversight of the management of allegations against staff in the children’s work force. This includes advising on safer recruitment and professional standards both in the public, private and voluntary sector.

I have assessed NVQ, Social Work and PQ Social Worker Student. I have also delivered training and was a tutor on the Early Support Programme, as one the two people in Wigan accredited by the DCFS as trainers. I have also delivered training for Wigan Safeguarding Children Board.

I continue as an independent Practice Teacher and work as a Practice Tutor for Salford University, remaining committed to the values standards and ethics of Social Work.
